The Tonnara del Secco
The ancient tuna factory in San Vito Lo Capo is now abandoned since decades, but it is the setting for a quiet dive that begins just a few meters from the coast. The boat is anchored on a rock bottom, at a depth of about 5 meters. A step will lead the divers at a depth of about 9 and 10 meters and the dive continues on a slightly sloping bottom full of sea grass, octopus, cuttlefish and scorpionfish. It 's easy to find the remains of amphora witnesses of activities since ancient times in this area. The plateau ends on a drop off from 20 to 25/28 meters where moray eels, conger eels and lobsters look out of their dens. Often some colorful nudibranch attracts our attention. Sometimes, depending on the current, there may also be a meeting with curious young yellowtails that are close to the divers. The dive ends with the safety stop at 5 meters next to the anchor.
